MEMORIES I FEEL BUT CAN'T REMEMBER
This painting exists because of a phone call.
After 2.5 years of not painting, I got a call from my dad. He told me about a memory I had no access to — my mom jumping out of a moving car while he was driving. I was there. I was in that car.
I couldn't remember it. But I could feel it.
That feeling — of knowing something happened to you that your mind won't let you see — became this. A skull dissolving into tentacles. Black, white, and grey swirling like a panic attack given form. Every brushstroke was an attempt to reach something just out of reach.
This piece broke a 2.5 year dry streak. It didn't just rekindle my obsession with painting — it reminded me why I paint at all: to process what words can't hold.
